As the Bing search engine is relatively new, it’s very important to get listed early to make sure that you make the most of Microsoft’s new decision engine product.
So how do you get a good ranking in the Bing search engine? Here’s the guide to getting listed:
How to get listed in the Bing search engine
Step 1 – Check your site is not indexed
The first step to getting your site listed in Bing is to check that it’s not already listed! Go to www.bing.com and search for your site (put the full URL in to the search box) and press the ‘search’ button. If it shows up, then it is indexed (go to step 3). If it’s not, then go to step 2!
Step 2 – Add your site to the Bing search engine
Go to http://www.bing.com/webmaster/WebmasterAddSitesPage.aspx and add your site to Bing! You have to put the website address as well as the Sitemap address (see Step 3).
Step 3 – Make sure your site is ready
This step to getting a good listing in Bing is to make sure your website has the correct components – a sitemap (saved at www.yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml) and this should have a list of all of the pages on your website and the pages you want indexed. Microsoft Bing will crawl your site before listing it, and so to not have this vital piece of the indexing pie is crucial. You will also need a robots.txt file which is not blocking the Bing spiders.
Step 4 – Enjoy your listing in Bing!
The crawler from Bing will crawl your site in exactly the same way as the Google crawler – so make sure your page is optimized for SEO in the same way as the other pages. A listing in the Bing search engine has the potential to bring in huge amounts of traffic, as Microsoft are preparing to spend a huge amount of money on advertising its new product. Scroll down and click ‘Enable’ on the ‘Extra Emoji’ (it means gmail emoticons in Japanese) plugin.
